The City of Durant is in the heart of Scott, Muscatine, and Cedar counties, located just two miles from Interstate 80 and four miles from Hwy 61. Durant is located within a drive time of 20 minutes from the Quad Cities and the City of Muscatine and 30 minutes from Iowa City. The Quad City International Airport is located 25 miles east of Durant providing non-stop flights to many destinations throughout the country.

Durant has a vibrant downtown that includes a grocery store with a deli and catering, drugstore and pharmacy, two dentists, a medical office, two chiropractic offices, and a post office among many other businesses to serve residents and business with their needs to succeed.


The Durant Community School District provides preschool to high school education with a class size of 17 students per teacher and a high rating in the school rating system. The school system is home to the Durant Wildcats and covers Durant and the surrounding rural areas. There are three private preschools located in the area.

The percent of population in owner occupied units is 78.1% compared to the state of Iowa that has 72.8%, and the United States in 65.2%

The City of Durant was in established in 1855 and has over 50 businesses, the leading employers are: Pioneer Hi-Bred, Norfolk Iron & Metal, SFS Intec and Durant Community Schools.
