The people of Cedar county welcome you with friendly faces and open arms. Each community within Cedar county may be small in numbers but big in heart. The communities have a well-balanced and diverse population with regard to age. The median age for males is 41.0 and females is 43.6. There are 7,511 households in Cedar county and 5,181 (69.0%) of those are family households. The percent of population in owner occupied units is 79.7% compared to the state of Iowa with 72.8%, and the United States which has 65.2%.

Location

Cedar county is located in the east central portion of Iowa. This prime location has an affordable cost of doing business and living, access to markets and a top notch workforce which makes Cedar county a great place to conduct business and live.

Our centralized region offers multiple transportation options and cost-effective access to domestic and international markets. With easy access to four interstates and over a dozen state and federal highways, Cedar county is within a three and a half hour truck drive of Milwaukee, St. Louis, Kansas City, Des Moines, Chicago, Indianapolis and Omaha. Within a day’s drive one can reach most of the U.S. business population and parts of Canada.

Iowa Roads


Less than an hour away from Cedar county is the Mississippi River with Port/Barge access flowing from the Great Lakes to the Gulf of Mexico and on to foreign ports. The port services have 46 public and private barge terminals; all terminals have direct highway access and three have rail access.

Cedar county has five public community school districts. All of them are smaller in size but provide many opportunities:

Cedar county has 18 colleges and universities within a 90 mile radius, including three community colleges, two public universities and 11 private colleges, universities and institutions of higher learning.
